keeping our koalas kool

We were absolutely delighted that so many people from the community came to visit the little lemonade stand, and supported us in our efforts of raising much-needed funds and awareness for the Australian wildlife that were injured in the recent bushfires.

The sun shone that extra bit brighter, the lemonade was refreshing and there was lots of fun to be had! There is something quite wonderful about setting up an old fashioned lemonade stand on a summer afternoon. The old year was behind us. A new year had begun! A fresh start. And what a way to start, thinking beyond ourselves and helping those in need, our fellow Australians. Of the animal variety. It was a bright and warm day, it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate with the community and support our furry friends.

This was our third year of hosting the fundraising event. The first year we put it together on the fly, but still managed to raise $148.50. The second year we invested more time and energy, and gathered some vendors to support the event, and we managed to raise $659.50. This year we started planning the event even earlier, and invited more vendors on board the team, and invited more of the community, with the aim to raise at least more than we had raised before. We were absolutely blown away by the generosity of the community and managed to raise well over a thousand dollars. The end result $1074.

To all those, who gathered your little ones and came along to join the fun in the sun…thank you! Together we made a difference. Together we encouraged and inspired the little ones of Perth to help and transform the lives of the Australian wildlife.

I am sure you would agree with me the recent bushfires were terrifying. The devastation they caused was heartbreaking. My eldest son – Jack (8)  was quite upset about how the recent bush fires have affected the Australian wildlife, in particular the koalas. I must admit I was more concerned about the people and my heart went out to all those who lost their homes and their livelihood. I came across some stats. I was shocked. The worst affected was the animals. Little Jack was right. 480 million animals had lost their lives.

I felt completely useless to the crisis happening right around me. I could make a donation – easy done right? However with my little people watching – I thought I could do something a little more intentional.

I chatted to Jack about ways we could help and he suggested to run a lemonade stand to raise money and awareness for the Australian animals affected. I’m delighted that my little family along with other families within the party industry, along with our community could make a difference in the lives of the Australian wildlife. In the event you missed the opportunity of supporting the cause via the fundraiser, you are most welcome to donate to WIRES directly.

We were thrilled with the support of the community, and that so many small business’ came onboard to support the event. Proving that it is far better to give than to get. It is quite rewarding thinking beyond yourself and demonstrating kindness to others. Amy, Belinda and Veronica, Catie, Chey, Daniel and Jennifer, Jasmin, Kerri, Kym, Lisa, Leanne, Miquelina and Shelley led the way with this, using their skills and talents to make a difference in the lives of the Australian wildlife. You can find out more about what their business offers by clicking here.

I’m sure you would agree, invitations are what give the initial excitement of the upcoming event! Jack and Matthew hand delivered over hundred invitations to our neighbours, and to their friends at their schools and our local church.

Leanne from dream a little dream created a selection of fabulous invitations featuring this cute koala, all dressed up in his party hat sipping his lemonade. Leanne was so kind and generous to create and donate all the event stationary elements from the invitation, to the menu, cup and lemon butter labels, welcome banner and mini signs – highlighting the showbags, lemon butter and activity stations. Leanne also generously added a mini pot of playdoh to each show bag, and volunteered on the day with the fun task of setting and styling.

Jasmin and Ash from Epic Installs created a fun backdrop with a fabulous colour combination of streamers teamed with this fabulous acrylic signage made for a significant backdrop. I don’t know about you, but I think it’s worthy of a Kodak moment! We were so grateful that Jasmin could stay for the day volunteering to welcome the community to the fundraiser.

Daniel and Jennifer from Foote and Flame created the hello sunshine sign for the backdrop and was so kind to donate lemonade stirrers for the event.

What’s an event without balloons? Chey from oh la la ballon bar created the incredible cascade of balloons coming down from the top of the lemonade stand, a balloon garland for the ‘lemon cart’, and two of the cutest koala balloons you ever did see.

my little party australia take great pleasure in putting together fun creative activities for our little party guests. On this occasion we created a building block station complete with a fire station, fire engines and fire fighting accessories which gave the little ones and the grown-ups too an opportunity to use their imagination, and create fun firefighting stories.

Allegra and Grace hosted a colouring station for all the little ones, complete with coloured pencils and crayons, and Australian animal colouring sheets. Allegra and Grace also provided chairs for each activity station. A different chair for each activity – how fun! Belinda and Veronica from Allegra and Grace also donated items to the show bags, and volunteered on the day.

Sweet Encounter Events hosted a playdough station complete with homemade play dough, and Australian gum nuts, and leaves to use to decorate their play doh creations.

Sweet Encounter also provided the fabulous cart which held the show bags, and lemon butter, and if that wasn’t enough – they also brought along their popcorn machine for everyone to enjoy popcorn at the fundraiser.

Introducing Giggly Em from Glass Slipper Entertainment who got us dancing to all our favourite Wiggles tunes! We are so grateful Giggly Em could visit us at the fundraiser providing high quality entertainment to all the little ones!

Perth Toy Hire not only provided all the lawn games for the event, but also donated an item to the show bags, and also served lemonade from ‘the little lemonade stand’ all afternoon! Thank you Kym!

Catie from Sweetly Baked along with Lisa from Cakes 2 Celebrate by Lisa offered an extensive amount of high quality lemon-inspired treats at our bake sale table. Anthony Craven, and our junior Chef Matthew Craven from my little party australia are passionate about creating fresh and delicious catering for little ones and grown-ups too, Anthony, Catie, Lisa, and Matthew outdid themselves by creating and providing the following menu:

  • hero cookies
  • koalas in a creek jellies

  • mini tarts

The thirst quenching lemonade was a hit with the little ones and the grown-ups too!

There is nothing more important to us than long lasting memories from a fabulous my little party australia event. We were delighted that Kerri from Kerri Mackintosh Photography jumped aboard as our official photographer for the event, she captured the event exceptionally well. Kerri is an incredibly talented photographer and a wonderful person to invest her time and talent into the event. Kerri also contributed lollies to each one of the showbags.

Did someone say showbags? Yes! We created showbags to raise extra funds to keep our koalas kool. They sold quicker than I could say….”roll up! roll up! get your show bags”. We were so pleased that the kids loved them! We couldn’t have done it without the generous contributors. Thanks to Shelley from Favor Lane Party Boutique, for the yellow bags, yellow balloons on a stick, lollipops and discount vouchers.  It was definitely a team effort filling the bags, Allegra & Grace Chairs, Dream a little Dream Events, Kerri Mackintosh Photography, my little party australia and Perth Toy Hire all donated fun items to the bags.

I can’t possibly throw a party with out involving Favor Lane Party Boutique. Shelley kindly donated a whole swag of items in addition to the show bags, a whole bunch of yellow straws, summery napkins, lemon foil balloons, mason jars and retro straw containers, and a fabulous lemonade stand prize for our lucky raffle winner.

All in all it was a successful event. I am confident the community were delighted to be a part of something that made such a great impact, and the Australian wildlife will be blessed by the impressive contribution. Jack and his party friends, Chase, Ethan, Harry, Jacob, Kate, Lucy, Matthew, Sam, Savana and Summer felt the satisfaction of helping a worthy cause, additionally they also got an opportunity to practice their maths skills and had a great time selling the lemonade and sweet treats.

If you are passionate about a worthy cause and would like to raise much needed funds and awareness for your cause why not create a lemonade stand for your next little fundraiser! You are most welcome to use any of the above ideas. Alternatively, I’d be delighted to do all the hard work for you! Hosting a fundraiser is no mean feat, as any event planner can confirm. There are so many things to organise. Wouldn’t it be great if you could get rid of at least some part of the mammoth task by outsourcing it? All it takes to get the party started is a phone call to me on 0424 728 798, or the click of the mouse to our contact page. I would love to create a joyful and memorable fundraiser for you and your little one!
