inch on over for some birthday fun! Little Elijah is turning one!
I was thrilled when Jane contacted me to assist her with the catering for her son’s birthday celebration. Little Elijah turned one in April, and he loves, like many little ones, the book: The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Eric Carle’s children’s classic is the story of a very small and very hungry caterpillar who manages to nibble his way through the pages of this enchanting book. My vision was to take the little party guests at the Redcliffe Park Community Centre into the pages of the book! We made this happen by creating a menu based on what the very hungry caterpillar ate throughout the book.
I like to use my imagination and put extra effort into decorating a table. On this occasion, I chose to use grass looking mats, and set the table with glass jars filled with the five fruit that the very hungry caterpillar ate; apples, pears, plums, strawberries and oranges as inspired by the book. The food that the very hungry caterpillar ate through on Saturday was set on large white platters, and stands. Every item of food featured a food tent, with the words and picture from the book. I included some plants in silver pots, aswell as the book itself. Plus a little caterpillar crawling through the grass.
As I am sure you would agree, entertainment is an essential element of every party. Louise from Messy Tots took the little caterpillars on a fun experience. The little party guests were absolutely delighted with all the different stations they could get messy! and the parents were pretty pleased too.
Food is very important for hungry little caterpillars, we created a delicious menu that not only satisfied their hunger but excited their tastebuds. We couldn’t resist filling up glass jars with fresh whole fruit. The menu created by our resident Chef, Tony Craven was as follows:
- chocolate cake
- ice-cream cones
- swiss cheese
- cherry pie
Lisa from Cakes to Celebrate by Lisa created the incredible ice-cream cones aswell as the delicious strawberry cupcakes, topped with vanilla frosting and sprinkles.
Little Elijah’s Great Aunty created this incredible masterpiece of a cake…so amazing!
