celebrating life on purpose

cropped-thumbnail_img_28651.pngas my little party australia‘s first birthday draws near I’ve taken the time to reflect on my first year in the small business world. And what a year it has been. The best way to describe it is being on a rollercoaster. At times scary, but for the most part fun! Exhilarating even. There has been some incredible highs, and some unexpected lows. As with anything in life there has been challenges, and I’ve learnt a great deal. Best of all is all the JOY it has bought others, which has bought me so much happiness and fulfilment.

As I’m sure you would agree, every mother is completely individual, and rightly so. They will parent differently, and have a different perspective on life. No way is right or wrong; it is just right for them. For me, I have realised I can’t just do the ‘stay at home Mum’ thing. I do understand the importance of it, and value the time I have with my little ones during this season. However, I must admit, I get bored easily, and thrive on a new challenge. Domestic chores bore me to tears. It’s not that I’m running from the dishes. I promise. I just want to use my skills and talents to help others.

When living in Manila, I had the great pleasure of having household help, and even then with the dishes getting done, I knew I needed to do more. I volunteered for an organisation, and held regular morning tea playdates, gaining support for a local charity, but that just wasn’t enough. I decided to enrol to study teaching.Β In Australia, I volunteered in the areas of children and events, I also studied design. I have also been a working mumma, managing events for a law firm, a state-wide campaign for a not-for-profit organisation, and a prestigious international sporting event for an event management company.

My little business venture has definitely bought me the most joy. Why? Because I dreamt about it for so long. Seven years to be exact. Why did it take me so long to take the plunge? Plain and simple: fear. Fear of not knowing all the ins and outs of business. I let the fear of failure and the fear of the unknown to hold me back.

I’m sharing all this with you, to encourage and inspire you. If you like me, love your little ones dearly. But need more. Then I recommend you pursue your dreams. Maybe it’s in the form of volunteering for an organisation you are passionate about, or studying something you have an avid interest, or working on developing your career, or possibly starting your own venture. Go for it. I’m here to encourage you! You can do this. Please don’t be like me, and let fear rob of you seven years. Get out there, and pursue your dream.

My heart is to help parents across Perth host stylish and unique celebrations for the little ones in their life. I’m so pleased I can use my skills of event management, and my love of event styling to help others. I am so grateful for the support of my husband, who has some serious skills in the kitchen. I’ve managed to help a handful of families this year, and hope to help even more in this coming year, the second year of my little venture. It brings me so much joy knowing that I have removed the stress from the parents and delivered a high quality, and special event. A celebration that will be etched in their memories forever.

FullSizeRender-15I have been amazed at the beautiful friendships I have made with others in the business world, women like me, pursuing their dreams with the hope to add colour and fun to people’s lives. My friends and family have been an incredible source of encouragement and support. I have also been quite humbled but also excited that our little celebrations have been recognised by the best in the business. The incredible highs have definitely far out weighed those unexpected lows.

So what are you waiting for; feel the fear and do it anyway. Take a leap of faith, and live your life on purpose.
